The Frankston 'Cambur' Blues begin their defence of the South Conference Championship with a home clash against the Pioneers of Mt. Gambier on Saturday, March 13th at 7:30 p.m.
Sporting three new players to their 2010 line-up, the Blues will be keen to get off to a great start to their season with a first - up home win. It won't be an easy task, as the Pioneers have loaded up on talent this year, with several South Australian State League players joining their already formidable line-up.
Chaz Briggs, Gavin Illangakoon and former Blues Jr. Ben Jacobson will all make their debut for the Blues. Briggs & fellow import Rob Kampman still await approval from Basketball Australia and SEABL to play, pending immigration processes in Canberra.
Illangakoon has been impressive in pre-season practices and games. The quick guard, originally a Dandenong Ranger, can get to the basket, shoot the three pointer and is a very good passer.
Jacobson, a stalwart last year in the Blues D-League team, has more than held his own in pre-season matches, notching up 16 points against Bendigo in one early practice match.
Returning for the Blues is Captain Grant Dennis (pictured left), third year import Rob Kampman, SEABL South Conference All Star Five player Andrew Harms, and local players Mitch Chapman & Mike Runchey.
Coach Bill Runchey said, "Barring injury we will be competitve this year. We are not very deep, in fact we could use another tall player. That was going to be former Blues Jr. Oliver Mansour, but Oliver will either be taking up employment in the USA or finishing his Sports Marketing degree during our season."
Also, returning to the team is Team Manager John Miltos, who was with the Club in 2004.
Ticket prices are $6.00 Adults, $2.00 Children 12 and under. Available at Door.
